ABOUT

About

We are Tom and Ramona Barton and our little daughter Niamh. We moved to Gletness in 2013 because we loved the view then spent the next 4 years working on the house which was in dire need of renovation. Both Tom and Ramona work for Shetland Islands Council, Tom with ICT and Ramona with The Assessors Office and Youth Services. Tom loves making music and Ramona loves photography. We both love wildlife and the outdoors and Gletness is the perfect location to experience it.

What's it like to live in Gletness?

Shetland is without doubt a truly beautiful place to live, but it can also be very challenging. As an island archipelago situated in the North Atlantic the weather is sometimes extreme. Although rarely very cold and certainly mild when compared to other locations at the same latitude of 60 degrees north, Shetland often experiences Gale force winds of 100mph or more.

Summer is cool, winter is windy, but on a nice day it is the best place in the world to live. The people are friendly and like nothing better than to get together for a good knees up.

Wildlife in Shetland is simply amazing, from puffins and Arctic Terns to Otters, Seals and Killer Whales we are often amazed at what we see on our daily travels.
